Students embark on ‘ride of their lives’
Posted 22 April 2011
Ten students from Harper Adams are biking their way to the Young Farmers AGM next month to raise money for charity.
The 100-mile ride will take the group from the University College in Shropshire, to Chorley for an overnight stay, before landing at the Winter Gardens and Opera House in Blackpool on May 6.
They are hoping that the event will raise money for the Anthony Nolan, Macmillan, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, and Teenage Cancer Trust charities.
20-year-old Charlie Morris, from Presteigne, said: “First year student, Gareth Parker, approached me during freshers week and asked if I could help him to organise a charity bike ride as I was then the RAG Treasurer.
“It then dawned on me that we could ride to the AGM as many Young Farmers clubs have used inventive ways to raise money.
“The 100 miles will be difficult as it’s hard to fit in training around lambing, but it will be a challenge which is what we all signed up for.”
Other students taking part are Jocelyn Orr, Gareth Parker, James Wadland, Ruth Smith, Edward Daniell, James Stent, Isobel Bowden, Bill Crank and Vicki Crank.
