Christmas Jumper Day raises funds for Save the Children
Posted 15 December 2014
Around 65 Harper Adams staff and students wore their finest festive jumpers for the day to raise funds for an international children’s charity.
The university signed up to take part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day – an event that encourages people to wear a Christmas sweater in exchange for a £2 donation to the charity.
Harper Adams raised around £130 by taking part, with four-legged friends from the university’s animals department also making the effort to be involved.
PR & Media Relations Manager, Janine Heath, encouraged the campus-wide involvement. She said: “Originally, it began as something that the marketing department decided to take part in, but it soon transpired that many other staff and students, including our Vice-Chancellor Dr David Llewellyn, also wanted to be involved.
“We are delighted to have been able to fundraise for Save the Children, and it just so happens that the charity’s President is our Chancellor – HRH The Princess Royal.
“Taking part in Christmas Jumper Day created a real buzz around the university, and we hope to be involved again next year.”
Save the Children is the world's leading independent children's charity working in 120 countries. It promotes children's rights, provides relief and helps support children in developing countries.
